The bins opposite the school are on a large concrete area. Could this space be put to better use? There are no recycling facilities here. The bin area could be landscaped to make it attractive, with designs perhaps from the school children. It would also be useful to have a children’s bike park here. This area of government land was until recently a garden, tended by a local woman who has a child at the kindergarten. The garden was destroyed by officials from the Lands Department who pulled out all the plants and cut down the papaya trees, but left this sign behind. Responsibility: Lands Department. Though it is illegal to cultivate government land, it is very sad that this garden was destroyed, while nothing is being done to deter dumping on Lamma. Surely a garden next to a school is a good thing. |
